BlueKolding’s history

In 2010 Kolding’s municipal wastewater services were hived off into an autonomous limited company, with its own board, but still owned by the Municipality of Kolding. This company was named Kolding Spildevand A/S (Kolding Wastewater). In this connection, the company also took over the previously publicly operated technical wastewater plants and systems. The Municipality of Kolding and BlueKolding’s responsibilities

The company’s main responsibility is the discharge and treatment of wastewater from such properties as were formerly elements in the municipal sewer services.

The company’s objective is, moreover, to implement the majority of such planning initiatives and investments as described in the Municipality of Kolding’s Wastewater Plan. Further, BlueKolding is in charge of ensuring the feasibility of households’ connection to the wastewater system. We charge administration fees for connection and for the discharge of wastewater; and, also, we ensure the drainage of septic tanks in such areas where connection to the general wastewater system is not feasible. However, the Municipality of Kolding is still the area’s environment and wastewater authority; and, hence, the municipality will be in charge of the general legislative planning within the area of wastewater to ensure that any planning takes place subject to existing legislation and plans.

Similarly, it will be the municipality’s responsibility to give permission to any direct discharge of wastewater or surface water/run-off into streams, lakes or coastal areas. The Municipality of Kolding is responsible for two overall plans which exert considerable influence on BlueKolding’s work.
